Crimson Desert: Tool Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Crimson Desert Tools are a distinct equipment type — they sit in their own inventory category and don't occupy weapon or armor slots.

The entries we have documented span gathering tools, quest-specific implements, special lanterns, and unique upgrades, all included in our Crimson Desert 100% completion hub.

Keep at minimum a Pickaxe (or Knuckledrill once you have it), a Logging Axe, and a Fishing Rod on you at all times.

What are Tools in Crimson Desert?

Crimson Desert Tools are a type of Equipment that help with exploration, gathering, combat, and everyday survival, including things like pickaxes, shovels, axes, grappling hooks, and other useful gear.

Without the correct tool equipped and selected from your equipment wheel, interacting with resource nodes does nothing.

Each tool type unlocks a specific activity — ore nodes require a Pickaxe, timber requires a Logging Axe, and fishing requires a rod.

The basic versions of all three are available at any Provisioner's Shop in Hernand from the start of the game.

The Essential Three: Start With These

Pickaxe — required for mining copper, iron, and all ore types. You can also mine using Force Palm if you don't have a pickaxe — aim at the ore with your camera, then charge a Force Palm attack.

Force Palm consumes Spirit and can be used from a climbing position to reach elevated nodes. The Pickaxe is also a free world pickup: a Fishing Rod appears in crates at the Three Saints' Falls lake, and a Pickaxe can be stolen from the fire area at Roothold in Hernand.

Logging Axe — enables you to get more and better Timber from chopping down trees. You need different qualities of Timber to upgrade most Bows and some Shields. Found on a crate next to the ruined house in Hernand — confirmed in checklist.

Fishing Rod — the entry-level fishing tool, found in crates at Three Saints' Falls lake. For the top-tier rod, see The Claw below.

Tool Upgrades: Fine Tools and the Knuckledrill

All tools can be refined at any Smithy for improved yields. The Fine Pickaxe adds a chance to mine additional materials — its blueprint is available from the Mineral Shop in Karin Quarry in central Hernand.

The Fine Logging Axe increases your odds of getting Fine Timber and can be upgraded to increase the chance of logging additional Timber.

The Mining Knuckledrill is the endgame mining tool — dropped by Marni's Excavatron at the Karin Quarry Rest Area after completing the Estate in Dismay Faction Quest.

Using the Knuckledrill allows you to mine ore faster while increasing your ore drops by 10%. It can be upgraded to offer higher yields while also automatically collecting anything you mine — extremely useful for high-yield nodes and cliff-face deposits.

Unfortunately, only Kliff can use this tool. Refine it to level 6 for the 20% yield passive — the 30% at level 10 costs significant Abyss Artifacts and is only worthwhile in endgame.

The Claw is the legendary fishing rod obtainable from the Wandering Secret Shop — Patrigio when you raise his Trust to 100. See the Fishing Shop guide for where Patrigio roams.

Quest-Specific and Unique Tools

The Broom is auto-acquired at the door of the house during the Actions Speak Louder than Words main quest in Hernand — used to clean the chimney as part of that quest's objective.

The Lantern auto-unlocks during the Realm of Uncertainty quest and is used to detect Memory Fragments, Abyss Cressets, and activate Guiding Light — the core exploration tool for 100% completion.

Three special Lantern variants exist:

• Dark Fog Lantern (Hernand, reward for completing the Peculiar Structure quest)
• Flame Lantern (Pailune, inside the strongbox behind the rotating wall in Vat'nholl Fortress)
• Shiny Blue Sea Lantern (Hernand, steal-only from the corner of the puzzle door room in the tallest cabin)

Two Chocolate Factory quest tools are in the Delesyia entries: the Gearmelt Confectionery Pack (maintenance tunnel, Sweet Pack quest reward) and the Lubricant Sprayer (maintenance tunnel, accessible during Restarting the Chocolate Factory).

Note: While these tools have numerous spawn points, our maps highlight one accessible location for each—typically in a safe area where you can collect them without committing a crime.
