In Crimson Desert, pets are earned through a system of "Trust." Almost every stray animal you encounter has a trust meter that caps at 100. You can increase this by petting the animal for a small boost or feeding it high-quality food—such as Fine Meat for dogs or Dried Fish for cats—which can be purchased at any regional Butchery or Grocer.
Once you reach the 100-trust threshold, a new interaction prompt allows you to "Take In" the animal, officially registering it in your Pets inventory tab. While you can own up to 30 pets, only one can be summoned at a time to assist you with auto-looting during your travels across Pywel.
Your journey into pet ownership typically begins in Hernand City, where several stray dog breeds like the Husky, Pointy-Eared Bulldog, and Beagle wander the central square and the streets near the blacksmith. If you follow the "The Greymanes' New Fangs" faction quest in Chapter 4, your comrade Naira will even lead you to a specific Brown Dog near the city outskirts to walk you through the trust-building process.
As you venture further north into the colder Kweiden region, you'll start encountering more specialized breeds like the Shepherd and Jindo, while the Floppy-Eared Bulldog tends to appear more frequently in the southern settlements of the continent.
For cat lovers, the search is a bit more involved. While standard Short-Haired Cats and Kittens can be found in almost every major town, the rarest variants are locked behind environmental challenges.
The legendary Fat Cat (also known as the Chunky Cat) is primarily found in the secret Village of Pororin, a Shai-run settlement hidden in the Pororin Forest that only becomes accessible after you complete the "Unreachable Village" questline.
In this village, you can find dozens of round felines, including the exclusive Desert Cat variant, which is only otherwise seen in the extreme reaches of the Crimson Desert region. If you're looking for a specific seaside companion, another unique Fat Cat can be found near the Nas River fishing dock, though be warned that this specific cat is known to occasionally disappear into the water if it's startled before you can complete the registration.
Once you get a pet, it is also worth knowing that if your friend isn't looting fast enough, you should check your inventory space. Pets will stop picking up items if your weight limit is reached or if your slots are full, making the Inventory Expansion quests from the local Notice Boards even more critical.
To help you increase the number of unique pets you own, we have included their locations on our interactive Crimson Desert maps; however, remember that pets spawn in various locations and move around. When you see one, make sure you pet it. Our maps highlight one location for each pet type.
