Bosses in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are the named story targets Edward Kenway confronts across the Caribbean — Templar officers, slaver captains, Assassin traitors, and pirate rivals whose defeat drives the game's narrative and often rewards unique gear.

Early Bosses

Duncan Walpole

The game's opening boss is encountered in the southern clearing of Cape Bonavista during the "Edward Kenway" main quest.

An Assassin turned Templar informant, Walpole is fleeing after being shot and is caught by Edward when his horse stumbles. The fight ends quickly — he's injured from the crash.

Defeating him yields Duncan Walpole's Robes (a Common Outfit), The Glass Cube (a mysterious artifact Walpole was carrying for the Templars), and a Treasure Map. These three rewards set the entire game's mystery in motion.

Bartholomew Roberts

Also known as The Sage, encountered in Havana during "A Man They Call the Sage" Main Quest.

This is one of the most distinctive fights in the game: no weapons are permitted — the fight is entirely unarmed.

The Sage must survive, making this a grapple-and-counter encounter rather than a standard sword duel.

Stay on the counter and parry timing rather than trying to chain offensive attacks, as any weapon draw or finishing move will fail the encounter conditions.

Story Targets and Templar Hunts

Beyond the bosses currently listed in this guide, the Caribbean spans a full roster of named story targets: Templar officers from Torres' network, pirate rivals including Woodes Rogers, and the new endgame antagonist Robert Maynard from the Resynced-exclusive "A World Without Gold" chapter.

All are tied to specific Main Quest sequences.

Four separate Templar Hunt questlines — each led by an Assassin contact (Rhona Dinsmore in Havana, Anto, Opía Apito, and Rhys) — track down sub-networks of Templar operatives across the Caribbean.

Completing each hunt yields a Templar Key: five keys total unlock the Templar Armor displayed at Great Inagua Manor.

The first key comes from killing Julien Du Casse in "A Single Madman." The "Help a Brother Out" trophy unlocks on completing any one Templar Hunt questline.
