Elden Ring: Ash of War Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

The Elden Ring Ash of War serves as the primary method for overwriting weapon skills and adjusting attribute scaling to fit your build.

The Ash of War Locations are discovered through hunting elusive Teardrop Scarabs, defeating field bosses, or looting the randomized depths of the Nightreign expansion.

The Whetstone Knife

Before you can apply any skills, you must secure the Whetstone Knife. This is the core requirement for all customization and is found in the basement of the Gatefront Ruins (Limgrave).

Without this tool, you cannot use the Ashes of War found in the field.

Primary Ash of War Vendors

To quickly fill your collection, visit these stationary masters of combat:

  • Knight Bernahl (Warmaster’s Shack): Your primary source for early-game fundamentals like Storm Blade, No Skill, and Quickstep.
  • Sorcerer Rogier (Roundtable Hold): Provides magic-focused ashes like Glintblade Phalanx and Carian Phalanx.
  • Twin Maiden Husks: Sells various ashes if you provide them with the correct Bell Bearings found in hidden catacombs.

Essential Base Game & DLC Locations

Many of the game's most powerful skills are dropped by Teardrop Scarabs (look for the glowing beetles or shimmering trails of invisible ones):

  • Bloody Slash: Dropped by a Godrick Knight atop Fort Haight (Limgrave).
  • Flame of the Redmanes: Found on an invisible scarab near the Gael Tunnel entrance (Caelid).
  • Bloodhound’s Step: Dropped by the Night’s Cavalry on the bridge in Dragonbarrow.
  • Seppuku: Located on an invisible scarab on the frozen lake in the Mountaintops of the Giants.
  • Blind Spot (DLC): Found on the Backhand Blades, secured by defeating Logur the Beast Claw in the Gravesite Plains.

2026 Nightreign Night Aspect Ashes

The 2026 Nightreign expansion has introduced Night-Aspect ashes, which are the traditional method for tackling the high-difficulty Nightlords.

  • Scholar Class Synergy: For those running the Scholar build, prioritize the Nightglow ashes found in the Nightreign Castle Sewers. These skills allow for arcane-scaling projectiles that deal bonus damage to the Heolstor the Nightlord boss.
  • Randomized Expeditions: During "Shifting Earth" events, you can find the Balancers and Dreglord weapon skills in randomized chests within the Tricephalos region.
  • Spectral Hawk Utility: Use the Spectral Hawk Tree network in the Forsaken Hollows to spot the gold-and-silver scarabs that appear only during Nightreign Storms. These rare beetles drop Legendary Ashes of War that are otherwise unobtainable.

To help you track down every beetle and boss reward, we have mapped every coordinate on our Elden Ring interactive atlas maps.
