In Dragon's Dogma 2, a Wakestone is the divine insurance policy for your campaign, functioning as the only barrier between the Arisen and a "Game Over" screen.
Wakestone Locations—comprising both the completed stones and the three Wakestone Shards required to assemble them—are the exclusive barriers to immortality and the revival of critical NPCs and Vocation Maisters who fall in battle.
Unlike standard consumables, Wakestones are most frequently found in pieces. Shards are tucked away in the most vertical and hidden corners of the world: atop the stone towers of Vernworth, inside the high-altitude nests of Griffins, and at the bottom of treacherous dungeon pits.
While full stones are occasionally awarded for completing high-stakes side quests or defeating elite boss spawns like Drakes, your primary source will be the systematic collection of shards.
To maximize your collection efficiency, you must utilize the Dragon's Gaze implement. When activated from your inventory, this ancient relic reveals the location of every nearby shard on your map, turning a blind search into a targeted sweep of local landmarks.
In 2026, try to prioritize the search in the Noble Quarter of Vernworth early on; the rooftops and balconies of the capital house enough shards to assemble multiple stones before you even leave for the border.
Furthermore, checking the inventories of world-class peddlers at oxcart stations is the only way to purchase shards directly, though they often come at a premium price.
