In Doom: The Dark Ages, the Shield Saw is both an offensive and a defensive tool. Shield Runes are powerful passive and active abilities that trigger specifically when you perform a Perfect Parry on a Hell Surge (the purple-glowing demonic projectiles).
There are 4 Shield Runes to discover. While you can only equip one at a time, finding them all is essential for adapting your strategy to the game's toughest bosses and "Red Encounters."
Once a Shield Rune is collected, it can be swapped at any time via the Arsenal menu. Additionally, each Rune can be upgraded up to three times at any Sentinel Shrine using Gold, increasing its duration or damage output.
Because Shield Runes rely entirely on the Perfect Parry mechanic, they are only as good as your timing. If you see a purple flash on a projectile, that is your cue to raise the Shield Saw.
To make sure you don't miss the hidden alcoves where these runes are located, they have been included on our Doom Dark Ages interactive maps, and you can quickly find them via the links in the following table.
