Doom: The Dark Ages: Sentinel Shrine Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide
In Doom: The Dark Ages, Sentinel Shrines are the tactical hubs in the game. These massive, ancient altars are where the Doom Slayer interacts with his arsenal, using Gold, Rubies, and Wraithstones to unlock devastating weapon upgrades and Mastery Challenges.
There are 32 Sentinel Shrines in total. Finding and using them is the only way to unlock the Berserker and Gunpletionist trophies/achievements.
While most collectibles in The Dark Ages are hidden behind secrets, Sentinel Shrines are generally positioned along the main path. They act as checkpoints for your character's progression.
When you are near one, a large notification—"Sentinel Shrine Detected"—will appear at the top of your HUD. Once you interact with a Shrine, you enter the upgrade menu where you can spend your collected resources:
- Gold: Used for standard efficiency and power upgrades for your 16 weapons.
- Rubies: Used for specialized modifications (e.g., the Super Shotgun's Dual-Hook).
- Wraithstones: Required for the final "Mastery" tier of each weapon.
- Demonic Essences: Used at Shrines to permanently increase your Health, Armor, and Ammo capacity.
Even though Shrines are easy to find, they are vital for two major reasons:
- Interacting with a Sentinel Shrine instantly refills all of your health, armor, and ammunition for every weapon in your arsenal.
- You cannot start a Weapon Mastery Challenge (required for the Fully Loaded trophy) until that weapon has been fully upgraded at a Shrine. Once the final Gold/Ruby/Wraithstone tier is purchased, the challenge becomes active in the world.
While most Shrines are on the main path, a few are hidden away in optional Landing Zones accessible only via dragon flight, such as the one in the Kar'Thul Marshes (Chapter 16).
