Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: BT Territory Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, BT Territories are zones of elevated chiral density patrolled by the spectral Beached Things — both a major hazard and a resource hub for capturing powerful BT Crystals.

There are 16 BT Areas in total: 2 in Mexico and 14 across Australia. While many are encountered automatically during Main Orders, several optional zones require specific Sub Orders or independent exploration to discover.

All 16 are documented on our free Death Stranding 2: On the Beach interactive game maps.

Unlocking the EX Capture Grenade

Capturing giant BTs requires the EX Capture Grenade, unlocked at Order No. 33 after connecting the Metagenomicist facility to the Chiral Network. Once unlocked, it can be crafted at any prepper station for 120 Chiral Crystals, 30 Resin, and 25 Special Alloy.

Unlike most tools in the game, the EX Capture Grenade has no upgrade tiers — its effectiveness depends entirely on timing and positioning.

How to Capture a Giant BT

Engage a large BT (a "Catcher") in combat and weaken it until its health bar turns red — critical condition.

Throw an EX Capture Grenade directly into its mouth at this point to crystallize it into a White Chiral Crystal, automatically collectible from the ground.

Once captured, the BT permanently joins the weapons wheel and can be summoned to fight alongside Sam during future encounters inside any BT Territory. Capturing the very first giant BT unlocks the BT's Best Friend trophy.

The Seven Named Catchers

  • Delphis (Whale) — near the Geophysics Lab in Mexico, the first Catcher most players encounter
  • Bestia (Lion) — near the F5 East Distribution Center in Australia
  • Octopoid (Tentacles) — coastal area behind the Metagenomicist
  • Kheir (Hand) — ruins southwest of the Pizza Chef, also appearing during the Ghost Hunter Sub-Order chain
  • Raia (Manta Ray) — high altitude near the Government's Base; the only fully airborne BT in the game, making capture exceptionally difficult due to its constant aerial movement and tractor-beam suction attack
  • Cetus (Lord of the Tar Lake) — fought via Sub-Order 117, unlocked by maxing connection with The Fisherman (itself unlocked via Sub-Order 116)
  • Gigas (Humanoid Giant) — hidden valley near the Ghost Hunter, requiring Sub-Order 114

An eighth giant boss exists in the game but takes the form of a ghost mech rather than a captureable Catcher and is not part of the EX Capture Grenade roster.

Nothing Is Permanently Missable

Every giant BT in the game can be captured or refought even after the credits roll.

A large tar-covered crater north of Heartman's Lab randomly spawns previously encountered giant BTs during the post-game Episode 17, providing unlimited additional attempts for any Catcher missed during the main story.

Name Details
BT AreaMexico

Description:

High chiral density has been detected in this BT area. According to reports, abandoned cargo can be found around the ruined church at its center.

BT AreaMexico

Description:

A BT area that spreads out to the south of the Ciudad Nudo del Norte (C1). The tar in this area has been used to dispose of corpses from C1 for a long time. As a result, chiral density has increased and BTs have started appearing in the vicinity.

BT AreaAustralia

This area has been designated as a BT zone due to elevated chiral density. Stay alert out there!

BT AreaAustralia
BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area located along the side of an old road. Timefall has destroyed most of the road, which now lies as little more than a ruin.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area that appeared as a result of a gate quake. Cargo sometimes washes up from the tar currents here, and the Phantom Smith always keeps an eye on the place. There are currently large numbers of gazers in the area, making it very dangerous to pass through.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area on the banks of the White River. It is thought to have developed after numerous people became lost in the snow, and eventually turned necro.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area that spreads across an elevated plateau in northeastern Australia. It is filled with ruined buildings from a bygone age. The terrain is flat, making it easy to move around.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area in the basin of the Pitchfork River, located to the northwest of the Northern Environmental Observatory. The area is often cut off when water levels rise, and the risk of being stranded means very few people choose to pass through here.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area to the south of the Metagenomicist's shelter. The area features a series of gentle slopes, and is bordered to the west by a giant tar lake. Chiral density is extremely high, and BT activity has been observed.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area to the north of the F5 East Distribution Center. The area is known for its steep slopes, rugged terrain, and the enormous tar lake to the west. Chiral density is extremely high, and BT encounters have been reported here.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area located to the north of the plate gate. The chiral density here is much high than in Mexico, and the area is shrouded in a red mist. There is a fear that this is somehow affecting the BTs in the area.

BT AreaAustralia

Description:

A BT area shrouded in red mist and packed with huge rocks -- some of which are taller than a fully extended ladder. These make for a landscape that is difficult to navigate, and easy to become lost in.

BT AreaAustralia

This area has been designated as a BT zone due to elevated chiral density. Stay alert out there!
