There are 8 Bell Towers in Crimson Desert — one in each major settlement across Pywel — and ringing all of them is the single most impactful thing you can do for map clarity and navigation.
Each bell permanently lifts the fog of war from its surrounding region, revealing geography, roads, rivers, settlements, and the Mysterious Energy markers that indicate hidden Abyss Nexus and Abyss Cresset locations.
After ringing each one, a Shai child appears in a cutscene and clears the map around the tower. All eight locations are pinned on MapMaster's region maps linked from the Crimson Desert 100% completion hub.
Each bell rings as one step in the Toll of Pywel questline, tied to the Priorin Forest Guardians faction.
Completing all eight finishes the questline and is required for 100% faction completion. See the Faction Quest guide for the full questline breakdown.
Seven of the eight bells are accessible from Chapter 1 — all regions of Pywel are explorable from the start of the game.
Ring them as you naturally travel through each area rather than rushing all eight at once.
The map clearing is cumulative and makes every subsequent activity — quest hunting, collectible gathering, and exploration — significantly easier the earlier you do it.
For the most efficient route, combine the Bell run with collecting Abyss Nexus fast travel points — the travel routes overlap heavily, and both are priority first-pass activities.
Two bells have specific restrictions.
The Pailune Bell is locked until you liberate Pailune in Chapter 7's Resolution mission — it cannot be rung before this story milestone, regardless of when you arrive.
The Calphade Bell is temporarily unavailable during Chapter 6 — ring it before or after that chapter, as it will be unresponsive while the chapter is active.
Most bells only require reaching the top of the tower and interacting. Two have specific mechanics you need to know in advance.
The Demeniss Bell requires finding the flagpole on the side of the city's tallest clock tower and hanging from it — your weight pulls the flagpole down, which lowers the bell into reach.
Climb to the top floor and ring it. Be aware that most Demeniss city guards are hostile until Chapter 8, but you can access the bell earlier by ignoring or fighting past them — there is no story requirement to wait.
The Varnia Bell requires rotating a lever clockwise at the top of the eastern tower in Varnia City until the bell lowers into range.
All eight locations are pinned on the Hernand interactive map (three bells), interactive Pailune map, Demeniss map guide, Delesyia interactive map, and Crimson Desert region map (two bells), with climb instructions and puzzle solutions in the checklist below.
