Assassin's Creed Shadows: Event Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Events in Assassin's Creed Shadows are the dynamic world encounters that animate the roads and settlements of 16th-century Japan — skirmishes, hostage situations, riddles, musician performances, and Awaji Island ambushes that reward Naoe and Yasuke with World Rumors (map pin revealing undiscovered locations) or Scout Intel (restore a deployed Scout).

Map Master is the only interactive resource tracking all confirmed Event spawn points across both Japan and Awaji Island.

World Rumor vs Scout Intel: Which to Choose

Every combat rescue and successful riddle offers a choice between two reward types — and the game never explains either.

World Rumor — adds a previously undiscovered point of interest to the map as a black-and-white circle marker. Revealed locations include Kakurega hideouts, Legendary Chests, Castle locations, side activities, Kofun tombs, and Shrines. The most consistently useful choice for completionists entering an unfamiliar region.

Scout Intel — restores one deployed Scout to the available pool. Scouts narrow down vague quest locations ("north of Osaka") and smuggle resources from Enemy Camps and Castles. Best chosen when actively farming crafting materials and Scouts are depleted. Scouts can also be restocked at any Kakurega for 200 Mon.

The auto-conversion rule: if all Scouts are already at maximum capacity, the game automatically awards a World Rumor regardless of choice. If every known location in the region is already discovered, Scout Intel is awarded instead.

Five Event Categories

  • Combat rescues — the most common type. Samurai executing villagers, bandits robbing travellers, brutes extorting fieldworkers, guards-turned-thieves, corrupt officials. Kill the aggressors, speak to the survivor, choose World Rumor or Scout Intel. Several survivors reveal specific nearby locations: Drunk Brute (Sakai) → Kawachi Heights Legendary Chest; Road Heist → Osaka Kakurega; Cart Robbery → Gear Vendor west of Osaka Castle.

  • Dialogue and aid events — purely social encounters: give Mon to a hungry elderly man, comfort a mourning Ashigaru, answer a riddle for a wager, give lumber to repair a cart. These reward specific intel or a single revealed location without any combat.

  • Musician events — biwa players found in towns and along roads (Takatsuki Musician, Oyamazaki Musician, Kamakura Valley Musicians, Seta Village Musician). No interaction or reward — pure atmosphere confirming the world's cultural texture.

  • Awaji Island road ambushes — the most dangerous Events. Tripwires, poison traps, and lootable chests with a 50% spawn rate (the chest equally likely to be a poison trap as high-value gear). Use Eagle Vision to spot ambushers in the bushes before approaching the bait. After completing "A Sour Defeat" quest, these ambushes escalate significantly and Tomeji's Captains begin appearing — enemies who keep reinforcing until defeated or fled.

  • Awaji Island faction missions — Nowaki's Ambushers and Yasuhira's Spies are multi-target assassination chains encountered as Events. Completing each faction's full target list earns 5,000 XP + Legendary loot (Nowaki's Ambushers: Seed of the Forest Legendary Trinket; Yasuhira's Spies: Fisherman's Hook Legendary Amulet). Letter Fragments dropped from targets piece together clues for Legendary Treasure Hunts.

Correct Dialogue Choices: Events With Wrong Answers

Several Events require specific responses for the optimal reward:

  • The Muko Post Town Riddler — riddle: "What is sucked in from the bottom and let out from the mouth?" — answer: Tobacco smoke. Wrong answer = lose wagered Mon with no second chance.
  • The Ashigaru Spearman — comfort him about his dead brothers: do not accuse him of betraying his clan. The correct response reveals the Izumi Settsu Hidden Trail.
  • The Noblewoman's Shell — she asks where the shell was found: answer Wakasa.
  • The Ashigaru Spearman Chef — he offers you bad food: be honest with him; do not tell him the food is good.
  • Fisher's Cats — fisherman claims cats ate his boat: offer lumber, and he rewards with Scout Intel or a World Rumor.
  • The Daikan Cart — fieldworker needs cart repair: give Mon or Wood to unlock the location of Sumiyoshi Shrine.

Events That Replace Enemy Camps

A confirmed subset of Japan Events spawns only when an Enemy Camp at the same location is absent — the table explicitly flags one: "Note: This event takes place if the Enemy Camp is missing." This is the same dynamic relationship noted in the Enemy Camp guide, where some camp locations are replaced by Port Traders.

Map Master tracks both the camps and the Events that fill their locations.

Name Details
Fisherman's Lost CargoAwaji Island

Potential Ambush & Road TrapAwaji Island

Watch your step!

This stretch of road is prime ambush territory. Enemies may be lying in wait, ready to strike the moment you wander into their trap.

Clues to Watch For—

  • Dead bodies or knocked‑over carts placed a little too conveniently
  • Blood trails leading off the road
  • Suspicious chests or resource piles acting as bait
  • Faint tripwire outlines stretched across the path

If you notice even one of these, assume the whole area is compromised!!

Strategy—

  • Stay off the main road. Slip into the bushes and use Eagle Vision to reveal hidden ambushers.
  • Take them out quietly with a kunai if you can.
  • If you’re spotted, prepare for a rough fight—these enemies use shinobi-style weapons, explosives, and poison, and they hit hard.

Notes & Tips

  • Ambush‑site Chests: These have a 50% spawn rate and will contain either high‑value gear or a poison trap, so be cautious!
  • Tomeji’s Captains: Completing the quest “A Sour Defeat” increases ambush frequency and unleashes captains into the world.
  • Timely Encounters: Once captains are unleashed, you will want to defeat enemies quickly; otherwise, they will join the fight.
  • Fighting Captains: You can hold your ground (especially as Yasuke)—but expect a brutal battle as enemies will keep pouring in, and Tomeji’s Captains are tough cookies!
  • Tactical Retreat: Of course, you can always channel your inner Brave Sir Robin and bravely run away—there's absolutely no shame in a highly strategic sprint in the opposite direction!
