Elden Ring: Whetblade Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

The Elden Ring Whetblade is a key item when it comes to weapon customization, and it is used for assigning affinities that alter attribute scaling and damage types.

Whetblades are hidden across the sprawling regions of the Lands Between and the subterranean reaches of Nokron. They are used for tailoring your equipment to specialized builds like "Frost-Mage" or "Bleed-Assassin."

The Six Foundational Whetblades

To unlock advanced affinities, you must first secure the Whetstone Knife from the basement of the Gatefront Ruins (Limgrave). Once obtained, you can find the following specialty blades:

• Iron Whetblade (Heavy, Keen, Quality): Located in Stormveil Castle. Use a Stonesword Key on the Imp Statue door near the Grafted Scion room to find it by the fireplace.
• Glintstone Whetblade (Magic, Cold): Found in Raya Lucaria Academy. From the Debate Parlor, head into the courtyard, climb the collapsed stairs, and enter the office where a corpse hangs from a window.
• Red-Hot Whetblade (Fire, Flame Art): Found in Redmane Castle (Caelid). It is located in a room past the flamethrower turrets; note that it is only accessible when the Radahn Festival is inactive.
• Black Whetblade (Poison, Blood, Occult): Found in Nokron, Eternal City. It sits on an altar within the Night's Sacred Ground, accessible only after defeating Starscourge Radahn.
• Sanctified Whetblade (Lightning, Sacred): Located in the Fortified Manor (Leyndell). It is found on the ground near the anvil in the replica of the Roundtable Hold's blacksmith area.

2026 Nightreign: The Slate Whetstone

The 2026 Nightreign expansion introduces a new tier of sharpening tools within the Limveld region.

• Slate Whetstone Location: This is a key requirement for the character Wylder. It is secured during his Chapter 3 Remembrance Quest. You must descend into a mining tunnel in Limveld (marked with an orange banner) and defeat the Tunnel Crystalian guarding the glowing rocks at the bottom.
• Expansion Utility: The Slate Whetstone is the traditional method for unlocking Wylder's specialized follow-up attacks with Greatswords.

In 20206, you should prioritize the Black Whetblade as soon as the star falls in Limgrave. Its ability to add Blood and Occult affinities remains a requirement for shredding the massive HP pools of the Nightlords.

When exploring the Nightreign Castle, use the Spectral Hawk Trees to scout for "Breakable Statues."

These statues often contain the high-tier Smithing Stones needed to upgrade the weapons you've just customized.

Additionally, if you are running a Scholar build, applying a Night-Aspect ash with the Glintstone Whetblade's "Cold" affinity is a great strategy for slowing down the aggressive teleportation of Heolstor the Nightlord.
