In Elden Ring, a Dragon Heart is the basis of the Dragon Communion path, serving as the currency for those seeking to consume the power of the Great Drakes.

Dragon Heart Locations are secured by defeating the legendary winged predators of the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow.

They are the primary access points for unlocking devastating Dragon Communion incantations that allow your hero to manifest the physical attributes of dragons in combat.

The Lands Between: Essential Dragon Locations

To begin your journey into Dragon Communion, you must secure hearts from these base-game encounters. Note that larger drakes often award multiple hearts.

• Flying Dragon Agheel (Limgrave): Found in the Agheel Lake waters; your first heart.
• Glintstone Dragon Smarag (Liurnia): Guards the Academy Glintstone Key west of Raya Lucaria Academy.
• Magma Wyrm Makar (Liurnia/Altus): Located at the summit of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.
• Elder Dragon Greyoll (Caelid): Found in Dragonbarrow; she yields 5 Dragon Hearts if her smaller drakes are slain or her massive health pool is chipped away.
• Decaying Ekzykes (Caelid): Patrolling the highway south of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion.
• Borealis, the Freezing Fog (Mountaintops): Found on the frozen lake near the First Church of Marika.
• Great Wyrm Theodorix (Consecrated Snowfield): Located in the frozen riverbed; awards 3 Dragon Hearts.

Shadow of the Erdtree: DLC Expansion Hearts

The Realm of Shadow introduces spectral and ancient variants that provide the latest endgame spirit rewards.

• Ghostflame Dragons: Found in multiple locations, including Gravesite Plain and the Cerulean Coast.
• Jagged Peak Drakes: Several minor drakes and the legendary Bayle the Dread are found along the ascent of Jagged Peak.
• Rock Heart & Priestess Heart: While not standard currency, these unique items are found via the Domain of Dragons painting and the Dragon Communion Priestess questline, allowing the player to transform into an Ancient Dragon form.

2026 Nightreign: Limveld & Dormant Powers

In the 2026 Nightreign expansion, the dragon-hunting shifts to the Limveld region. Here, the traditional Dragon Heart is often replaced or augmented by Dormant Powers.

Ritual of Dragon Communion: Reward Hubs

Once you have secured your hearts, you must visit an altar at night to exchange them.

• Church of Dragon Communion (Limgrave): Accessible through the Coastal Cave. Offers basic breath attacks like Dragonfire and Dragonclaw.
• Cathedral of Dragon Communion (Caelid): Offers advanced "Named" spells like Agheel’s Flame and Ekzykes’s Decay, which can be cast while jumping.
