In Elden Ring, a Deathroot is the physical residue of the Rune of Death’s corruption, serving as the currency for those seeking the primitive power of Bestial Incantations.
Deathroot Locations—found within the grim chests of hidden catacombs and dropped by the spectral Tibia Mariners—grant the favor of Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman, in the Bestial Sanctum.
To achieve 100% completion, you must secure all nine roots scattered across the Lands Between and the expanded Nightreign territories.
Each root traded to Gurranq at the Bestial Sanctum unlocks a specific reward:
In the 2026 Nightreign expansion, the Beast Eye has been updated to vibrate when near the new "Spectral Husk" enemies in the Limveld region, who occasionally drop Sharded Deathroot for lower-tier rewards.
It is also worth knowing that when giving the 4th or 5th root, Gurranq will become hostile. Make sure you do not kill him; reduce his health by approximately 25% until he yields, then rest at a Site of Grace to reset his dialogue and continue the questline.
To help you navigate the treacherous invisible paths of the Haligtree or the ruins of Altus, we have mapped every coordinate on our Elden Ring interactive navigation maps.
